TOMB RAIDER 2013 – A SURVIVOR IS BORN

Posted: June 13, 2013 by Tuhinansu in New, reviews

Tomb Raider is the 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise from developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix. It is the tenth Tomb Raider game, and the first in a new take on the series.

Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game. Published by Square EnixTomb Raider is the fifth title developed by Crystal Dynamics in the Tomb Raider franchise. As the first entry in a new Tomb Raider continuity, the game is a reboot that emphasizes the reconstructed origins of the culturally influential lead character Lara Croft. Tomb Raider was released on 5 March 2013 for PlayStation 3Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

After a delayed release from late 2012 to March 2013, the game received much anticipation and hype. Tomb Raider received much acclaim from critics, who praised the graphics, the gameplay, Camilla Luddington’s performance as Lara and Lara’s characterization and development with many critics agreeing that the game is a solid and much needed reboot of the franchise. Much criticism went to the addition of the multiplayer which many felt was unnecessary. Tomb Raider went on to sell one million copies in forty-eight hours of its release, and has sold 3.4 million copies worldwide as of March 26.

Gameplay :

Tomb Raider uses an interconnected hub-and-spoke model that combines action-adventure, exploration, and survival mechanics. The game is presented in third-person perspective, and the player takes control of the lead character, Lara Croft. Karl Stewart said that the game’s campaign will last between 12 and 15 hours.

The Gamers who loved Lara Croft in Tomb Raider who is searching for clues, hunting the creatures, finding the new paths for her work and revealing  many secrets in the game might not get the exact same type of plot in this new creation by Square Enix  and  Crystal Dynamics. The emphasis is given on the surroundings, graphics and survival of Lara Croft and her Team. The title suggests the story of the new born Tomb Raider which is given below. The Gameplay is very good, all the moves that Lara does are realistic and very new, like when Lara goes through two sides of mountain or when she was going through tunnels using torch etc.

All credits goes to Crystal Dynamics for their effort for the emerging graphics of the game. The use of  Directx 11 for “Tessellation”  is perfect and the use of “TressFX” for hair is just awesome. These effects make the game feel more better and realistic.  Most of the game is played in dark night and stormy weather which might irritate some of the gamers. But the amazing thing about Square Enix‘s Games is that they don’t demand very high end graphics card to run a game.

Along with the main story, players will have the chance to do multiple side quests, explore the island, revisit places, and search for challenge tombs.

Multiplayer :

The fourth episode of The Final Hours of Tomb Raider, which went live on YouTube on 8 January 2013, announced that the game would have multiplayer features. The multiplayer mode was created by Canadian video game development studio Eidos Montreal, known for making Deus Ex: Human Revolution. According to the game’s developers, there will be three types of games for multiplayer, played in five different maps. Many things available for the single-player campaign, are also added into multiplayer. In each game, there are two enemy teams: Four survivors and four scavengers, and they either try to eliminate the opposite team or attempt to bring medical supplies to certain points in the map. The player can also set traps or activate special features, according to the map the game is set in.

GAME DESCRIPTION :

When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows.

With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island’s past.

As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

Story :

The game begins with Lara setting out on her first expedition about the ship Endurance, with the intention of finding the lost kingdom of Yamatai. By her suggestion and against Whitman’s advice, the expedition ventures into the Dragon’s Triangle, east of Japan. The ship is struck by a violent storm and split in two, leaving the survivors stranded on an isolated island. Lara is separated from the others when she is captured by a strange, savage man and trapped in his cave home. She manages to escape while her captor is killed as the cave collapses around them. As Lara tries to locate the other survivors, she finds more evidence that the island is inhabited, complete with strange carvings, dead bodies, and ritual sacrifices of animals. She eventually finds her friend Sam and a man called Mathias, who claims to be one of the passengers. As Sam tells Mathias the legends of Himiko, Lara passes out; when she wakes, Mathias and Sam are nowhere in sight.

When Lara finally reunites with the other survivors, she and Whitman decide to break off from the main party and search for Roth, who is still missing, while the rest of the group (Reyes, Jonah, Alex and Grim) set out to find Sam and Mathias. As Lara and Whitman explore, they discover that the island’s inhabitants are worshiping Himiko, confirming that the island is, in fact, Yamatai. Upon discovering a shrine erected in Himiko’s name, they are captured by the islanders and taken to a settlement along with several other survivors of the Endurance wreck. When the survivors attempt an escape, the captors turn on them, hunting them down and killing them. Lara is separated from Whitman and tries to hide, but is found by Vladimir, one of the leaders of the inhabitants. Vladimir attacks Lara, but she fights back and is forced to kill him to save her own life. She fights off the remainder of the inhabitants as she desperately works her way up the mountainside to meet up with Roth. Eventually, she locates an injured Roth in a nearby abandoned village. Using Roth’s equipment, Lara sets off for a communications relay at the very top of the mountain, in hopes of contacting the outside world and calling for aid.

After successfully hailing a plane that was searching for the Endurance and setting a signal fire for them to follow, Lara witnesses a fierce storm materialise out of a clear sky and strike the plane down, accompanied by a mysterious voice saying “No one leaves” in Japanese. Feeling responsible for the fate of the pilots, Lara is powerless to stop the island’s inhabitants from killing them. Lara is contacted by Alex and Reyes, who reveal that Sam has been kidnapped by the island’s inhabitants, a violent cult known as the Solarii Brotherhood. Lara, who is closest to Sam’s position, tries to rescue her, but is foiled by Mathias, who orders her killed. Lara is saved by the intervention of strange samurai-like creatures—referred to by the islanders as ‘Oni‘, demons in Japanese folklore—and taken to an ancient monastery in the mountains. Escaping again, Lara stumbles onto a ritual chamber, where she learns that a “fire ritual” was used to choose the Sun Queen’s successor as part of a ceremony called the “Ascension”. A terrified Sam manages to contact Lara and informs her that the Solarii intend to put her through the fire ritual, which will burn her to death if it is unsuccessful. Lara makes for the Solarii fortress, meeting up with Grim, but the Solarii capture the latter and threaten to murder him unless she surrenders. Grim attempts to overpower them, but is killed in the process. Lara is almost killed herself, until Roth intervenes; with his support Lara is able to infiltrate the palace, where she witnesses Mathias putting Sam through the fire ritual. Lara interrupts the ritual by trying to save Sam, but she is overpowered by Mathias and his men. The ritual continues, but Sam is not harmed by the flames, which are extinguished by a great gust of wind, marking her as the rightful successor to the Sun Queen’s throne.

Lara narrowly escapes captivity once again and doubles back to help her friends, whose attempts to reach Sam have resulted in their capture. Aided by Whitman—who has managed to negotiate some degree of freedom with the Solarii—Lara returns to the palace to rescue Sam as Roth commandeers a helicopter to get them out. Having witnessed the storm that forced the search plane to crash, Lara sends Sam to escape by land and tries to force the pilot to land as a second storm brews up, striking the helicopter and forcing them to crash. Lara is nearly killed in the accident and is revived by Roth. However, Mathias and the Solarii arrive, and Roth is killed by a tomahawk meant for Lara. While mourning over Roth, Lara accepts that the storms are not natural, but are somehow connected to the Sun Queen and designed to prevent anyone from leaving the island. She meets up with the other survivors, who have evaded the Solarii long enough to secure a boat for escaping the island, provided that it can be repaired. They are joined by Whitman, who claims to have escaped, though Lara begins to suspect him of working with the cultists. Lara heads for the wreck of the Endurance to meet up with Alex, who had previously gone there to salvage the tools needed for Reyes to repair the boat. She finds him trapped under wreckage and, as she attempts to free him, they come under attack by the Solarii. Alex decides to trigger an explosion and sacrifice himself so that Lara can escape with the tools.

Finding an account of a World War II era Japanese military expedition to the island that sought a way to harness the power of the storms as a weapon, Lara decides to explore an ancient tomb on the coast, where she finds the remains of a high-ranking samurai who had committed seppuku. It is revealed, in a message he left, that he was the general of the queen’s Stormguard, the Oni that defend the monastery, and that the Queen’s successor took her own life rather than receive the Sun Queen’s power, leaving the Sun Queen trapped in her body after death, and her rage has manifested in the form of the storms. Lara realises that the Ascension is not a ceremony to crown a new queen, but rather a ritual that transfers the original Sun Queen’s soul into a new body, and that the process will destroy the host’s soul. Himiko’s spirit wants to escape its current body, and Mathias plans to offer Sam as a new host. Lara returns to the survivors on the beach to find that Whitman has betrayed them, abducting Sam and handing her over to Mathias.

tombraider2013-03-072y9svb (1)

Lara, Jonah and Reyes give chase, heading up a river to the monastery, with Lara arriving just in time to see Whitman killed by the Oni. After fighting her way through the queen’s guards, Lara arrives at the top of the monastery in time to see Mathias start the Ascension ritual. She works her way to Mathias, confronting Solarii and guards alike. Lara kills Mathias when she shoots him from the roof of the monastery using two pistols, sending him plunging into the abyss below, before destroying Himiko’s remains to save Sam. With the storms dispersed, Lara, Sam, Reyes and Jonah leave the island and are picked up by a cargo ship. As she and her friends sail home, Lara decides that there are many more myths to be found and resolves to uncover them, stating that she isn’t returning home just yet.

I Am Alive

Posted: September 16, 2012 by Tuhinansu in New, reviews

The Story of this game is revolving around the survival of a man to find his wife and daughter. One year after a worldwide cataclysmic event that wiped out most of the human race, a man struggles for survival in a desolate city as he tries to reunite with his long lost family. In this post-apocalyptic tale, there are no supernatural threats, just an everyman who faces a decaying and hazardous world and humanity’s darkest inclinations.

Plot

The game takes place one year after America has gone through a massive disaster known simply as “The Event,” which included earthquakes that destroyed most cities and areas. Due to the damage of the aftermath, many people are forced to go without resources. The government tries to help citizens, but their attempts are useless. Supplies become low and this causes citizens to become agitated, violent and bitter.

A male survivor (who is never named in the game) travels to his old home of the fictional city Haventon, to rescue his wife Julie and daughter Mary. When he gets to his old apartment though, he finds they have left to get to safety and meanwhile video tapes his apology for not being there and says that he will do everything to find them. As he is leaving, the protagonist sees a small girl who he mistakes for his daughter and saves her from three hostile men. The girl, Mei, is missing her mother and gives the protagonist a walkie-talkie with which he talks to Henry, a friend of Mei. Henry asks him to bring Mei to him and he agrees. The protagonist and Mei travel out to Henry’s apartment, but soon stop in a dilapidated mall to rest during a dust storm. The protagonist notices that Mei has a fever, so he goes to find a supply drop that the government landed for survivors and is able to recover medicine for Mei. The two leave the next day and arrive at Henry’s place and see that Henry is disabled and cannot walk. The protagonist is then tasked of finding a radio for Henry and traverses through the deadly dust clouds and makes it to an old boat. After searching the boat and finding the radio, the protagonist makes it off and travels back to Henry.

The protagonist makes it back and Henry thanks him and finally trusts him as a friend. Henry also suspects that Mei’s mother might be in a localhotel and pressures the protagonist into finding her for Mei. He gets to the hotel and fights through a large number of killers who have kidnapped, intimidated and hurt women to pressure them into performing sexual acts on the men. The protagonist finds Mei’s mother, Linda, and rescues her from the men. They both get back to Henry’s place and Mei reunites with her mother. Linda is able to use the radio to get messages from a boat coming to Haventon to pick up survivors. This seems as their way out but they soon learn that the boat is not coming to shore because of the dust. Henry makes the plan of creating a beacon to bring in the boat by using fireworks. The protagonist takes some of Henry’s fireworks and sets them off on a nearby rooftop, successfully making a beacon for the boat. Just after they set it up though, hunters attack and the protagonist is forced to fight them off but Henry is nowhere to be found after. Finally, the beacon attracts the boat and it arrives at the dock just in time.

In the end, Mei and Linda go aboard the boat but the protagonist decides to stay, hoping to find Henry and his family. Mei and Linda bid him farewell and he records his last tape and says that he will find Julie and Mary and try to rescue Henry, before it is shown that Julie has been watching all his videos and currently has all his gear as well. She cries after the video ends and it is left on a cliffhanger whether or not the protagonist or Henry survived.

Gameplay

The player controls the main character from a third person perspective during navigation, the camera switches to first-person when aiming and shooting. During encounters with hostile survivors, the player can use various tactics to stay alive, including sneaking to surprise enemies with a machete quick kill, performing stealth kills with a bow, or using bluff and intimidation e.g. pointing an empty gun at hostilenon-playable characters.

The game has an emphasis on climbing and exploration. The player will scale wrecked buildings and navigate hazardous areas. Every effort has a cost and, when engaging in physically demanding activities, such as climbing or jumping, it is critical to manage the main character’s stamina for him to survive. By managing stamina skillfully players are rewarded by accessing hidden paths, resources and other survivors.

Gameplay also involves collecting hidden resources and supplies scattered throughout the city: water, food, batteries, gas, medicine, cigarettes, tools, climbing gear, weapons, and ammunition. Anything that the player can salvage from the destroyed city can be used to keep the main characters strong and healthy, or prove helpful in his quest by allowing him to rescue survivors. Retries can be collected throughout the game by helping or rescuing people, with optional side quests to complete.

Sleeping Dogs

Posted: September 6, 2012 by Tuhinansu in New, reviews

Welcome to Hong Kong, a vibrant neon city teeming with life, whose exotic locations and busy streets hide one of the most powerful and dangerous criminal organizations in the world: the Triads. You play the role of Wei Shen, an undercover cop trying to take down the Triads from the inside out. You’ll have to prove yourself worthy as you fight your way up the organization, taking part in brutal criminal activities without blowing your cover. Torn between your loyalty to the badge and a criminal code of honor, you will risk everything as the lines between truth, loyalty and justice become permanently blurred.

You’ve just planted a surveillance bug on orders from your superior officer. As you sneak away you receive a text message. Your connection at the chop shop needs a high-end sports coupe. You spot the car and tear the driver from the front seat, kicking him in the midsection before speeding off to claim your money.

The line between hero and villain is wonderfully blurred in the action role-playing game “Sleeping Dogs” (Square Enix for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, $59.99; for PC, $49.99).

Sleeping Dogs is a 2012 open world action-adventure video game developed by United Front Games in conjunction with Square Enix London Studios and published by Square Enix, released on August 14, 2012, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.Sleeping Dogstakes place in Hong Kong and focuses on an undercover operation to infiltrate the Triads.

The game was originally in development as an original IP, but was announced in 2009 as True Crime: Hong Kong, the third installment and a reboot of the True Crime series.[7] As a result of the game’s high development budget and delays, it was canceled by Activision in 2011. Six months later, it was announced that Square Enix had picked up the publishing rights to the game, but the game was renamed Sleeping Dogs in 2012 since Square Enix did not purchase the True Crime name rights.

GAMEPLAY :

The core gameplay of Sleeping Dogs consists of giving the player an open world environment in which to move around freely. Sleeping Dogs is played as an over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective action-adventure game with role-playing elements. The player controls Wei Shen, a Chinese-American police officer, as he goes undercover to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organization. On foot, the player character has the ability to walk, run, jump, climb over obstacles and swim, as well as use weapons and martial arts in combat. Players also drive a variety of vehicles including automobiles, boats, and motorcycles.

The role-playing elements consist of upgrades that fall under both police and triad skill trees. The more police tasks you complete, the more experience you gain to improve those skills; the same for triad tasks. This design forces you to choose certain skills at the expense of others, but you also need to maintain balance to throw off suspicion on both ends.

You can travel to various martial arts schools scattered throughout the city to fight, join the street racing circuit or just drive around listening to one of several radio stations. Kerrang Radio, featuring British alt-rock, was my personal favorite.

“Sleeping Dogs” is not breaking any new ground in the action-RPG genre, but with an engrossing story line and plenty of wild things to do around Hong Kong, it’s an excellent title that shouldn’t be missed.

PLOT :

The game starts in a Hong Kong Shipping Harbor, where undercover police officer Wei Shen is busted after a drug deal gone bad. Thrown into jail, Wei meets his old friend, Jackie Ma, who offers Wei to join his gang after they are released. Wei meets with Superintendent Thomas Pendrew in the interrogation room and his handler Raymond Mak. Wei asserts that he now has links with the Sun On Yee. After meeting with Jackie, Wei is introduced to Winston Chu, a Sun On Yee red pole and leader of the “Water Street Gang”. To prove his loyalty, Winston sends Wei on various missions to seize back territory from Winston’s rival, Sam “Dogeyes” Lin, leader of the “Jade Gang”. During one mission, Wei is arrested by Inspector Jade Teng, but Pendrew bails him out and affirms his identity to Teng.

Winston decides to take the offensive by attacking one of Dogeyes’ warehouses. However, doing so will displease the Chairman and Dragon Head of the Sun On Yee, Uncle Po. Wei convinces Winston to spare Dogeyes’ drug maker Siu Wah and give Uncle Po a bigger profit than what the Jade Gang offers. Wei succesfully does so and fully earns the trust of the Water Street Gang. When Winston is contacted by Uncle Po, who wishes to meet with Wei, he relays the meeting to Raymond, who is concerned that Wei is becoming “one of them”. However, Raymond relents as Wei has gotten ever closer to infilitrating the Sun On Yee. During Winston and his fiancée Peggy Li’s wedding day, the Sun on Yee is attacked by rival Triad “18K”. Amidst the fighting, Winston and Peggy are shot dead and Uncle Po is critically wounded, but Wei manages to get him to the hospital. For saving his life, Uncle Po promotes Wei to the rank of red pole and succeeds Winston as leader of the Water Street Gang.

When fellow Sun On Yee red pole Henry “Big Smile” Lee threatens to take the Water Street Gang’s territory, Wei refuses and Lee’s henchmen unsuccessfully intimidate Wei. However, he agrees to an alliance with red pole “Broken Nose” Jiang to prevent Lee from achieving his goals. During a meeting with other red poles and a hospitalized Uncle Po, a temporary Chairman must be elected. Jiang suggests Po’s nephew “Two Chin” Taso, to avoid Lee nominating himself. On Jiang’s request, Wei sabotages Tsao’s residence to make him appear incompetent to lead, making the position of Chairman limited to Lee and Jiang. When Uncle Po suddenly dies, Wei is told by Pendrew his undercover duties are over, though he protests: if Lee becomes the Dragon Head, the Sun On Yee will be worse than it was under Uncle Po.

Furious at Wei’s insubordination, Pendrew leaks information about his undercover operations to Lee, who orders Jackie’s kidnapping in order to lure out Wei. Although Wei frees Jackie, Jackie is once again kidnapped and killed by the 18K. Captured and tortured, Wei manages to escape and sets out to assassinate Lee, slaughtering his men standing between them. After a long arduous chase, Wei corners Lee and kills the over-ambitious red pole. Raymond congratulates Wei on a case well done, but delivers the news that Pendrew has been promoted to Interpol, thus any complaints against him won’t be heard. Jiang, who has consolidated her power in the Sun On Yee and ascended to become Chairwoman, is shown monitoring Wei and despite his cover blown, spares his life due to the loyalty he showed to her. As a token of goodwill, she sends him a package with video surveillance detailing Uncle Po’s death by the hands of Pendrew. With this incriminating evidence, Wei throws Pendrew into jail, knowing he will not survive long in a place filled with Triad members he has put away throughout his former career.

Batman : Arkham City

Posted: August 29, 2012 by Tuhinansu in New, reviews

The Games you never forget are rare and Batman Arkham City is one of them..

When part of Gotham is turned into a private reserve for criminals, all hell is sure to break loose, and the Dark Knight is the only one who can stop it.

Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3Xbox 360Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is a sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was released worldwide for consoles, beginning in North America on October 18, 2011, with a Microsoft Windows version following on November 22, 2011.

Arkham City was written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini with Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill, and it is based on the franchise’s long-running comic book mythos. In the game’s main storyline, Hugo Strange incarcerates Batman in Arkham City, a new super-prison enclosing a portion of the fictional Gotham City. Batman must uncover the secret behind Strange’s “Protocol 10” while protecting the other inmates from many of Gotham’s most notorious criminals also imprisoned within Arkham City. The game’s main characters are voiced by many actors from the DC Animated Universe, namely Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively. The game is played as athird-person perspective action-adventure game with a primary focus on Batman’s combat abilities, stealth and detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Arkham City expands Batman’s arsenal of gadgets and combat attacks and offers a more “open world” structure, allowing the player to complete side missions away from the primary storyline.

GAMEPLAY :

Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batmanuniverse, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

Arkham City is an “open world” action-adventure game that incorporates elements of stealth and beat ’em up game tactics. The gadgets previously obtained in the first game are present at the start ofArkham City, while others are available later in the game. Most of these gadgets have improved or boast new capabilities; for example, the Cryptographic Sequencer can also track signals, the line launcher now can be deployed as a tightrope and has a feature that allows Batman to flip over and launch another zipline, switching directions. The remote control Batarang now has a built in brake and boost, and the grappling gun can now be used while gliding to boost Batman further up into the air. New gadgets include smoke pellets to confuse armed enemies when spotted by them, the Remote Electrical Charge, a taser gun used to power generators and shock enemies, ice grenades used to freeze enemies and make pathways through water, and a signal disruptor used to jam firearms and detonate enemy explosives. The game incorporates more puzzle elements; the use of Batman’s “Detective Mode”, which highlights elements such as enemy skeletons and clues on-screen, is used to perform forensic activities such as tracing the origin of a sniper round.

The player also has access to a criminal database that tracks several investigations across the city and the forensic puzzles, as well as a communications interception and tracing network. However, Rocksteady’s art director David Hego described the new detective mode as an “augmented reality mode”, and game director Sefton Hill has also stated that although enemies and evidence can be seen more clearly, the navigational part is toned down as they found that some players completed Arkham Asylum using detective mode almost throughout the entire game.Optional challenges from the Riddler to collect hidden trophies placed around the city are also present, but require additional effort to locate, such as interrogation of men loyal to the Riddler, and the use of nearly all of Batman’s gadgets to disable “traps” and barriers placed around them. After a certain number of trophies are found, Batman must go rescue a hostage that the Riddler has captured, which requires him to disable death traps set by the Riddler.

The player controls Batman, making their way around Arkham City to complete mission objectives. In addition to the primary mission, the game introduces secondary missions featuring a number of key characters and their stories. The player can opt to move silently, avoiding inmates and other enemies using a combination of gadgets to sneak up on enemies to incapacitate them. Batman’s gliding ability allows players to dive downward and pull themselves back up, enabling the player to traverse the city by air.

At other times, the player may be forced to fight inmates using an improved version of the Freeflow combat system from Arkham Asylum, allowing for multiple simultaneous counters, the ability to counter thrown objects, jump attacks, powerful multi-strike beat-downs, upgraded Batarang and Batclaw attacks, and the ability to use gadgets such as the Explosive Gel. Movement about the city is made difficult due to the formation of gangs and territory between rival villains, such as Two-Face, The Penguin, and the Joker, that causes in-fighting that Batman may avoid.

Catwoman is also a playable character with her own heist-focused storyline at specific points in the game. Her combat is more acrobatics-oriented and features her claws, whip, and bolas. She has her own version of Detective Mode called “Thief Vision” to locate items for stealing. Dax Ginn revealed at Gamescom that the game has about 40 hours of gameplay with the main campaign lasting 25 hours and 15 hours for the side missions. The game contains 440 Riddler challenges, which make up one of the multiple side missions that players can embark on at any given point in the game. Rather than rely on maps, the player can mark Riddler puzzles as they are found, if the player does not have the necessary equipment to complete them. A portion of the puzzles are also specific to Catwoman, and can only be completed by her.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Arkham City include a stereoscopic 3D mode for 3D HDTVs and for 2D HDTVs via Inficolor 3D glasses, while the PC version supports Nvidia 3D Vision which allows an even greater 3D depth due to the Nvidia software and hardware supporting adjustments of such. It uses TriOviz for Games Technology, which is integrated with Unreal Engine 3. All Arkham City gameplay and cinematics have S3D support.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

A destroyable blast fest you shouldn’t miss.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 sets a new standard for interactive i.e. destructible environments. A prominent feature of both its short but entertaining single player campaign and multiplayer modes.

First of is the graphics/effects. By far, the graphics in this game are the best I’ve seen. From the cut scenes, explosions up to the destructible environments, this game surely satisfied and delivered what my expectations are from a fist-person shooter game. They made great use of the technology that almost all that you can see on the environment can be fired and get destroyed you just can’t take cover in one place for a long time because if you do, you might end up dead in a matter of seconds. It looks absolutely awesome when walls are being blown to smithereens, but it also plays the tactical role of destroying viable cover.  There’s never a sense that where you’re standing is totally safe, creating a constant state of tension.  Bad Company 2’s destruction is integrated into the game play in ways that, well, no others game has done before.

This game features well and several modes of sound rendering, including the awesome “War Tapes” mode. You can hear birds chirping and the dialogues among the characters were great. Every explosion, every crack from rifle fire hundreds of feet away, every deafening explosion, can be heard. The voice acting for this game is very good from the way the make hilarious jokes and pick on Haggard to Serge’s voice which commands respect and yes it means you ought to obey whatever he says.

Either as a deliberate design omission, or because it was developed for consoles then ported to PC, the game controls do not feature lean, or prone positions, and require the player to keep a key depressed to remain in a crouch.

The SP campaign is entertaining, featuring fairly lengthy cut scenes that connect the individual SP missions together. The cut scenes and missions themselves feature the four main characters of BC 2, as well as a number of supporting characters. The BC 2 fire team engages in trivial and humorous banter throughout the cut scenes and missions. You’ll probably want to watch all the cut scenes on the first play through, and you may skip most of them by hitting the space bar after that. The SP missions also serve as fair training for any MP efforts you might wish to try. While I enjoyed the SP campaign, I felt the ending was a little weak, and not too surprisingly it set up the series for the next release.

Multiplayer? There are four modes available, Rush, Squad Rush, Conquest, and Squad Death Match. Conquest is basically a team capture the flag/spawn/control point type of game play that will be familiar to most MP FPS players. Rush is an attack/defend mode with a series of 2 M Com stations on a series of map sections, that sequentially unlock as the M Coms in each section are destroyed. If the defenders possess any functioning M Coms at the expiration at the end of the game time limit the defenders win. If the attackers destroy all the M Coms in each map section prior to game end…..they win.

There are only four MP character classes, that feature the usual baseline set of weapons and gear. As the player accumulates points for innumerable accomplishments or achievements, they’ll unlock additional weapons and equipment. You may hate on assaulters (all assault rifles have under barrel grenade launchers) with their ammo box and endless spamming, or medics with their over powered M 60 machinegun, engineers with the sniper like/huge splash damage Carl Gustav (aka Carl Johnson) AT weapon, or Recon’s with their spotting /mortar strike capability and general tendency to “hang back”.

If you want a blast fest with the usual minor annoyances, and a unique destructible environment and awesome sound……………..this is YOUR game.
