Batman : Arkham City

Posted: August 29, 2012 by Tuhinansu in New, reviews

The Games you never forget are rare and Batman Arkham City is one of them..

When part of Gotham is turned into a private reserve for criminals, all hell is sure to break loose, and the Dark Knight is the only one who can stop it.

Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3Xbox 360Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is a sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was released worldwide for consoles, beginning in North America on October 18, 2011, with a Microsoft Windows version following on November 22, 2011.

Arkham City was written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini with Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill, and it is based on the franchise’s long-running comic book mythos. In the game’s main storyline, Hugo Strange incarcerates Batman in Arkham City, a new super-prison enclosing a portion of the fictional Gotham City. Batman must uncover the secret behind Strange’s “Protocol 10” while protecting the other inmates from many of Gotham’s most notorious criminals also imprisoned within Arkham City. The game’s main characters are voiced by many actors from the DC Animated Universe, namely Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively. The game is played as athird-person perspective action-adventure game with a primary focus on Batman’s combat abilities, stealth and detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Arkham City expands Batman’s arsenal of gadgets and combat attacks and offers a more “open world” structure, allowing the player to complete side missions away from the primary storyline.

Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batmanuniverse, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

Arkham City is an “open world” action-adventure game that incorporates elements of stealth and beat ’em up game tactics. The gadgets previously obtained in the first game are present at the start ofArkham City, while others are available later in the game. Most of these gadgets have improved or boast new capabilities; for example, the Cryptographic Sequencer can also track signals, the line launcher now can be deployed as a tightrope and has a feature that allows Batman to flip over and launch another zipline, switching directions. The remote control Batarang now has a built in brake and boost, and the grappling gun can now be used while gliding to boost Batman further up into the air. New gadgets include smoke pellets to confuse armed enemies when spotted by them, the Remote Electrical Charge, a taser gun used to power generators and shock enemies, ice grenades used to freeze enemies and make pathways through water, and a signal disruptor used to jam firearms and detonate enemy explosives. The game incorporates more puzzle elements; the use of Batman’s “Detective Mode”, which highlights elements such as enemy skeletons and clues on-screen, is used to perform forensic activities such as tracing the origin of a sniper round.

The player also has access to a criminal database that tracks several investigations across the city and the forensic puzzles, as well as a communications interception and tracing network. However, Rocksteady’s art director David Hego described the new detective mode as an “augmented reality mode”, and game director Sefton Hill has also stated that although enemies and evidence can be seen more clearly, the navigational part is toned down as they found that some players completed Arkham Asylum using detective mode almost throughout the entire game.Optional challenges from the Riddler to collect hidden trophies placed around the city are also present, but require additional effort to locate, such as interrogation of men loyal to the Riddler, and the use of nearly all of Batman’s gadgets to disable “traps” and barriers placed around them. After a certain number of trophies are found, Batman must go rescue a hostage that the Riddler has captured, which requires him to disable death traps set by the Riddler.

The player controls Batman, making their way around Arkham City to complete mission objectives. In addition to the primary mission, the game introduces secondary missions featuring a number of key characters and their stories. The player can opt to move silently, avoiding inmates and other enemies using a combination of gadgets to sneak up on enemies to incapacitate them. Batman’s gliding ability allows players to dive downward and pull themselves back up, enabling the player to traverse the city by air.

At other times, the player may be forced to fight inmates using an improved version of the Freeflow combat system from Arkham Asylum, allowing for multiple simultaneous counters, the ability to counter thrown objects, jump attacks, powerful multi-strike beat-downs, upgraded Batarang and Batclaw attacks, and the ability to use gadgets such as the Explosive Gel. Movement about the city is made difficult due to the formation of gangs and territory between rival villains, such as Two-Face, The Penguin, and the Joker, that causes in-fighting that Batman may avoid.

Catwoman is also a playable character with her own heist-focused storyline at specific points in the game. Her combat is more acrobatics-oriented and features her claws, whip, and bolas. She has her own version of Detective Mode called “Thief Vision” to locate items for stealing. Dax Ginn revealed at Gamescom that the game has about 40 hours of gameplay with the main campaign lasting 25 hours and 15 hours for the side missions. The game contains 440 Riddler challenges, which make up one of the multiple side missions that players can embark on at any given point in the game. Rather than rely on maps, the player can mark Riddler puzzles as they are found, if the player does not have the necessary equipment to complete them. A portion of the puzzles are also specific to Catwoman, and can only be completed by her.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Arkham City include a stereoscopic 3D mode for 3D HDTVs and for 2D HDTVs via Inficolor 3D glasses, while the PC version supports Nvidia 3D Vision which allows an even greater 3D depth due to the Nvidia software and hardware supporting adjustments of such. It uses TriOviz for Games Technology, which is integrated with Unreal Engine 3. All Arkham City gameplay and cinematics have S3D support.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

A destroyable blast fest you shouldn’t miss.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 sets a new standard for interactive i.e. destructible environments. A prominent feature of both its short but entertaining single player campaign and multiplayer modes.

First of is the graphics/effects. By far, the graphics in this game are the best I’ve seen. From the cut scenes, explosions up to the destructible environments, this game surely satisfied and delivered what my expectations are from a fist-person shooter game. They made great use of the technology that almost all that you can see on the environment can be fired and get destroyed you just can’t take cover in one place for a long time because if you do, you might end up dead in a matter of seconds. It looks absolutely awesome when walls are being blown to smithereens, but it also plays the tactical role of destroying viable cover.  There’s never a sense that where you’re standing is totally safe, creating a constant state of tension.  Bad Company 2’s destruction is integrated into the game play in ways that, well, no others game has done before.

This game features well and several modes of sound rendering, including the awesome “War Tapes” mode. You can hear birds chirping and the dialogues among the characters were great. Every explosion, every crack from rifle fire hundreds of feet away, every deafening explosion, can be heard. The voice acting for this game is very good from the way the make hilarious jokes and pick on Haggard to Serge’s voice which commands respect and yes it means you ought to obey whatever he says.

Either as a deliberate design omission, or because it was developed for consoles then ported to PC, the game controls do not feature lean, or prone positions, and require the player to keep a key depressed to remain in a crouch.

The SP campaign is entertaining, featuring fairly lengthy cut scenes that connect the individual SP missions together. The cut scenes and missions themselves feature the four main characters of BC 2, as well as a number of supporting characters. The BC 2 fire team engages in trivial and humorous banter throughout the cut scenes and missions. You’ll probably want to watch all the cut scenes on the first play through, and you may skip most of them by hitting the space bar after that. The SP missions also serve as fair training for any MP efforts you might wish to try. While I enjoyed the SP campaign, I felt the ending was a little weak, and not too surprisingly it set up the series for the next release.

Multiplayer? There are four modes available, Rush, Squad Rush, Conquest, and Squad Death Match. Conquest is basically a team capture the flag/spawn/control point type of game play that will be familiar to most MP FPS players. Rush is an attack/defend mode with a series of 2 M Com stations on a series of map sections, that sequentially unlock as the M Coms in each section are destroyed. If the defenders possess any functioning M Coms at the expiration at the end of the game time limit the defenders win. If the attackers destroy all the M Coms in each map section prior to game end…..they win.

There are only four MP character classes, that feature the usual baseline set of weapons and gear. As the player accumulates points for innumerable accomplishments or achievements, they’ll unlock additional weapons and equipment. You may hate on assaulters (all assault rifles have under barrel grenade launchers) with their ammo box and endless spamming, or medics with their over powered M 60 machinegun, engineers with the sniper like/huge splash damage Carl Gustav (aka Carl Johnson) AT weapon, or Recon’s with their spotting /mortar strike capability and general tendency to “hang back”.

If you want a blast fest with the usual minor annoyances, and a unique destructible environment and awesome sound……………..this is YOUR game.

Lock and load, soldier! The Battlefield 2 Complete Collection puts you on the frontlines of 21st century combat. There’s a war going on and you’ve been dropped into the middle of it. In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 64 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC. Additionally, persistent character growth allows players to rise through the ranks and attain the ultimate rank of General.  With more than 2 million copies sold, this proven classic brings the intensity and excitement of Battlefield 1942™ into the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.

The story takes place in the early 21st century (in and around 2007) during a fictional world war between various power blocs: China, the European Union (playable as of the 1.50 patch), the fictional Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC), Russia (playable only in the Special Forces expansion) and the United States. In-game, the European Union and the United States fight China and the MEC. It is known that in the game’s story, the EU and the US are allies and the EU has negotiated a peace deal with Russia but it is unknown if China and the MEC are allies. The game takes place in different fronts, as the Middle East and China are being invaded by US and EU forces, and the United States is being invaded by Chinese and MEC forces.

Even though Battlefield 2 is a sequel to Battlefield 1942, there are many changes to the popular gameplay of the original. Many of these new gameplay features were added to the game with teamwork and collaboration in mind. The new game engine includes improved physics, dynamic lighting, and more realistic material penetration.

Split Second

I have played almost all the games of Need For Speed and I was looking for a racing game which could be something different from the NFS. Disney presents Split Second which has very good graphics quality and very good gameplay conditions which is somewhat good for a change from NFS .

Disney believes in “Speed is not Enough” for this game and Split Second agrees with it. Split Second has a series of 12 episodes and in each episode there are about 5 to 7 levels. The player has to cover a practice game first and then episode 1 starts. For jumping into next episode we have to complete the the last level of the previous episode, which will be unlocked after getting certain reward point from winning some of the levels of that episode. The difficulty level increases as the number of episodes increases. This is not only a race but a destruction race where the power of destruction will be given after certain amount of drafting or drifting. In the start of each episode you get a brief of all the events you are about to face. Similarly the end of a episode comes with a trailer of the upcoming episode.

Then now we shall take a look at some pictures for a graphics verification of the game :

Split Second is an intense action racing game set within a reality television show. Competitors will vie to be the first to the finish line in a made-for-TV city set rigged to blow with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Players in Split/Second don’t just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track, but can also trigger devastating events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use pinpoint timing to obliterate huge structures and towering TV set pieces to tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.

A City Rigged For Destruction – Trigger explosive, devastating events lined throughout the track that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Every Lap Is Different – Use pinpoint timing to obliterate huge structures and towering TV set pieces to tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes. Intense Multiplayer – Compete in a variety of game modes in 2-player split screen or take the action online in races for up to 8 players.
